Casey and Hunter’s Elopement

When I first met Hunter, I was actually sitting on a tour bus in Nevada. My phone rang during our long drive back to our hotel from Antelope Canyon, and I didn’t recognize the number, but I answered anyways. Hunter needed a photographer on short notice for his proposal to his girlfriend, Casey. His plans with another photographer had fallen through, and the clock was ticking. Even though I was hundreds of miles away, I agreed to be his photographer. I knew that I needed to make his proposal a stress-free success. Despite plane cancellations and delays, I made it back to Virginia in time to photograph a beautiful, emotional, and energetic proposal on Virginia Beach. Fast forward two months, and my phone rings again. It’s Hunter and Casey! And they’re ready to get married!

As Casey told me, “Love is patient and love is kind, but we’re not!” These two wanted to get married, and nothing was going to stand in their way. When Hunter and Casey asked me to photograph their elopement, I couldn’t be more excited. Hunter and Casey were my first proposal clients, and now they wanted to be my first elopement clients too! I felt so grateful that they planned to trust me with their photos, love, and memories yet again. My response to their inquiry was a resounding YES!

On their elopement day, our first stop was the courthouse. Casey wanted to capture some memories at the spot where they officially tied the knot! We had the surrounding outdoor area of the courthouse all to ourselves! We had so much fun skipping up and down the courthouse steps and dancing in the garden. With my speaker in tow, we created our own private party to celebrate their marriage.

But, the party didn’t end at the courthouse! When Casey, Hunter, and I were brainstorming prior to their elopement day, I suggested that we conclude their day with a date-night series of photos. I told them to pick an activity that they normally would do together, and I would be a fly on the fall to document their experience together.

So, that’s what landed us at the Historic Cavalier Hotel and Beach Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I had never visited this venue before, so when we pulled into the parking lot, my jaw dropped! It was the vintage hotel of my dreams! Gold trimmed paintings, velvet chairs, crystal glasses—this hotel has it all. Casey and Hunter ordered some fancy drinks at the bar to celebrate their marriage, and I followed them around the hotel on their date night. We laughed, celebrated, and (maybe) spilled a few dirty martinis in the process.

I had so much fun joining Casey and Hunter on their date night and exploring the hotel. It was the exact intimate, vintage, and fun elopement experience that they were hoping for. We found so many cute nooks in the hotel to take photos and to celebrate. And with the distraction of a concert on the front lawn for other guests, we found the garden all to ourselves to end the night.

I am so thankful that Casey and Hunter trusted me to capture their proposal and elopement in Virginia. Every time I am with them, I learn more about myself as an artist and business owner. They are two of the kindest souls that I have ever met, and I can’t wait to continue capturing memories with them for a lifetime. I can honestly say that after joining Casey and Hunter on their elopement day, I gained two incredible friends in the process. I can’t wait to follow along their journey and to see them at their wedding reception in the next year!
